Situational Interest and Its Sources: A Comparison Between Expressed and Observed Situational Interest about Heat Transfer

Latest studies on situational interest (SI) point out that the expressed (ESI) and observed (OSI) of students emerge during science courses differentiate from each other. However, aiming to determine this difference are rare. Accordingly, purpose qualitative case study is compare ESI OSI middle school emerging a course what type sources these show in relation their SI changes. Turkish six-graders (N= 30, age 11–12 years) participated heat transfer course, was video-recorded. The measured repeatedly different sequences periods examined by combining student self-evaluations observations video recordings. As result study, it although increased especially hands-on activities, decreased general towards end differentiated with time, prominent included novelty, personal relevance, concreteness engagement.
